Developing Leadership

ACTS 6

Not everyone in church is a leader.  Many could be, but are not.  I want to develop those who want to fill a leadership position.  One leader by himself can only go so far.  Two can go just a bit farther.  A whole church working together as a team can take the church very far. If we will work together as a team, we can make the vision for our church come true.  A spiritual leader’s most serious responsibility is to develop you into another spiritual leader.  I want to start developing spiritual leadership.

Spiritual leadership is God-confident, knows God.  It does no good to pretend that you have a relationship with God.  It’s not some ooey-gooey thing, it is a natural, realistic experience.  A spiritual leader seeks God’s will.  His will is to win people to Christ, to walk with Him, to do right, and to love mercy.  If you are an unforgiving person, you are not right with God.

A pastor should be the greatest servant in the church.  The ministry is not about you.  Be a team player and work together.  A spiritual leader finds and follows God’s methods, and delights to obey God.  A spiritual leader is motivated by love for God and man.

Don’t try to convince people that God is real.  Show them that He is real through spiritual leadership.  Spiritual leaders see needs, and seek to meet them.

We need to be meek. Meekness is an automatic response to do right.  It’s child’s play to beat a critical spirit when it comes to spiritual leadership.  Spiritual leadership realizes that people are on different levels spiritually.  They mentor, and are not critical.

Gossip is childish.  A spiritual leader protects the weak.  He doesn’t destroy them.  We need to develop spiritual leadership–starting with ourselves.  We need to decide in our hearts to do right, to love mercy, and to walk with God.

We need to study God’s Word to be effective in God’s work!

Requirements for leadership:

We need people that have proven themselves.  People of honest report and integrity. They are what they say they are.  You must have wisdom.  You must be humble.  You must be trying to do right.  Be humble servants of the church.  You need to be faithful.

See a vision in the needs of others! Don’t just be busy, grow in Christ!  Establish a walk with God first, and THEN serve Him!!

Psalm 2

We are what we are because God made us that way.  God should make the decisions in our lives, not us.  Too many people play God in their own lives.  God gives us all the blessings we can handle. Your life is not your own.  You were bought with a price. When you put yourself up on a pedestal, God will knock you off of it.

When I decided that my students came first, this is what I decided:

No student will take a quiz when I haven’t prayed for them by name.  I’ll never be too busy to talk to them.  I’ll share the gospel with my students, and pray for God’s power before every class.

Decide to get off the pedestal of your life.  Quit being critical.
